Artist's Description

Shany Porras's "Translation of Copland's Appalachian Spring" is a contemporary, geometric abstract painted with a mixture of mediums on canvas. The artist selected media such as acrylic paint, washi tape, paper, and graphite. At 48h x 36w inches, the sizable painting explores the relationship between the sharp, straight lines against the "cloudy" backdrop.

Porras states, "Many of my paintings are translations of orchestral music. For this painting, I translated "Appalachian Spring" to celebrate the rebirth of our nation at the end of a devastating global pandemic. The colors are vibrant and playful and free."
